Continuity Induction Video Evaluation

Continuity Induction Video Evaluation

The brief for this task was to plan and shoot a sequence of around 20 shots in which a package of some sort experienced a change of hand. We had several other criteria including 5 close ups, a camera movement, an extreme close up and a non-cut transition (post production). All of these criteria were achieved.

Production

We spent 3 hours on production which was enough time for us to gather all of the footage we needed and even some extra unplanned footage which we played about with in post production. We firstly set up the camera on manual mode ensuring that the FSP was 25, the shutter speed was double the FSP, the ISO was below 800 and the aperture was f3.5. Some set ups though like the ISO and focus depended on the location we were at and the lighting so we ensured we changed this as and when appropriate. We worked well as a team and managed to film all of the footage we set out to in the allocated time. We planned all of our locations, shot types and sequences in a couple of lessons before production to ensure the process ran as smooth as possible. The only problem with production was that we didn't incorporate enough time to check over our footage before moving on to a different location. This meant that when it came to post production, some of our footage was dark or out of focus. In order to improve this we could have checked our footage immediately after filming it so were were able to re film if necessary then. We could have also used artificial lighting such as portable lights in order to ensure that our lighting was consistent throughout (other than mood lighting) to make the footage clearer and less grainy.

Post Production

We spent another 3 hours on post production editing. As our group was a 4, we decide to split into 2 smaller groups of 2 when editing so we had 2 different versions of our brief. We did this to ensure we were all able to have a go at editing and we believed if we all worked together to edit then there may have been disagreements about sequencing and graphics so we decided it would be easier to split off. In this time we watched our footage back and selected footage that was appropriate for our film and
up to the desired standard although some of the footage we weren't one hundred percent happy with but had to use anyway due to continuity and the story line of our film. We also used Premier Pro in order to trim our footage and sequence it together as well as adding a title, credits and secondary copyright free music as our film did not include dialogue. I found Premier Pro easy to use however, if I had more time I would have used specialist software such as Photoshop in order to edit our text and add some more graphic to our film. Also, if we had more time, we would have spent longer looking for music which felt more fitting to our footage.

Continuity

The main purpose of the task was to ensure we considered continuity in production and post production. This meant that we had to ensure our footage and story line flowed and there was no obvious changes such as a sudden change of outfit or props in the background that doesn't fit the story line. We managed to ensure that throughout our finished film we had continuity and we didn't have too many issues with this. We decide to film my scenes all on one day to ensure my outfit was the same and we also had to re film another member of our groups scenes as he changed the color of his hair since filming half of his scene so in order to ensure continuity, we decided to re film all of his scenes. In post production, we really focused on making sure the entire film flowed and there were no continuity errors. I believe that we managed to ensure this but there was one scene where one of our cast members had changed positions when we changed the camera position. This is visible in our film, however it is a minor issue and something that some people wouldn't even pick up on when watching.

In conclusion, I believe that my group worked well together in order to ensure our work matched the brief and was done under the time limit. Also, I believe we successfully considered continuity in our work which was the main aim of the task.
